Surely We have revealed unto Thee (O Muhammad) even as We revealed unto Nuh and the prophets after him; and as We revealed unto Ibrahim and Isma'il, and Is'haq, and Ya'qub, and the tribes, and 'Isa and Ayyub, and Yunus, and Harun, and Sulaiman; and to Dawud We gave a Scripture. And (We revealed unto) messengers some of whom We have narrated to thee before and others of whom We have not narrated to thee; and to Musa Allah spoke directly. (We sent all these) messengers as bearers of glad tidings and warners in order that there be no plea for mankind against Allah after the messengers; and Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.

Al-Quran, Surah Nisa 4:163-165.
