Books to read
A compilation of lectures given by the author in 1925 at Madras, India. In these lectures the author vividly presents the life of the Prophet as an abiding historical model - not a utopian ideal - for all humanity.
This book is meant for the general reader who wants to know what the “Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ” is, the nature of its authority, and the standard of its authenticity, including discussion of how it has a binding authority over Muslims for all times to come, what status the Holy Qur’ân has given to it, and what measures the Ummah has adopted to preserve it for the coming generations.
A comprehensive collection of authentic du'as (supplications) of the Holy Prophet .
This is an English rendering of an Urdu book, Zad-e-Rah, by Maulana Jalil Ahsan Nadvi, a collection of 450 Ahadith of Rasulullah . It covers the entire spectrum of human life. The ahadith deal with different aspects of human life and are grouped in fifteen chapters. Each chapter has many ahadith and each hadith is assigned a topic and is translated. A commentary is provided after each topic. It is a good and easy source for halaqas and generates tremendous interest. We recommend this easy-to-read translation for Muslims who wish to familiarize themselves with the Islamic way of life in a relatively brief time. It is well-suited for people who wish to learn with minimum search. This is a good book, reasonably priced for a USA printed text. (Review: Dr. Abdul Hamid, Sept. 2002)
A classic work of Islamic beliefs and practices, written especially for women.
An English translation and commentary with Arabic text of Mishkat-ul-Masabih. Four volumes of a famous collection of the sayings, doings, and teachings of the Prophet of Islam .
An excellent, contemporary commentary of the Qur'ân based on previous works by great scholars such as Qurtubi, Ibn Katheer, Ashraf Ali Thanvi, and others.
[Good gift for children] This book presents the lives of Allah's major Prophets. Originally written in Arabic, and available in good English and Urdu translations, these stories have been widely used as textbooks throughout the Arab and Muslim world. This translation, from the original Arabic, gives English-speaking Muslims access to Sayyed Abul Hasan's Islamic scholarship. The stories are in a lively style and offer fresh knowledge, guidance and inspiration to both adults and children. The stories are drawn from the Holy Qur'an and contain informative explanations, vivid descriptions, and perceptive observations. An understanding of the Prophets' missions is of special relevance today when Muslims are constantly struggling to stay on the right path.
[Good gift for children] Presents a comprehensive account of the life of the last Prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). This translation from the original Arabic allows young English-speaking Muslims to benefit from Sayyed Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi's renowned Islamic scholarship. The work covers the historical background to the call to Islam as well as providing an authentic description of the experiences encountered by Allah's Messenger as he struggled to bring his wayward community to the Divine Path. This book offers guidance and inspiration to young Muslims seeking answers to the evils in today's society. Relying on the Holy Qur'an and its contemporary sources, the author illustrates how the natural order was restored from chaos 1,400 years ago.
[Good gift for children] This set of two books highlight aspects of the lives of about 60 companions of the Prophet , some famous, others almost completely unknown. Here the trials and triumphs of the early Muslims as individuals are well-portrayed. The stories are based on original Arabic sources and written in a style that is lively and often gripping. This is a new revised edition (1998).
