Fir'awn

alt. Pharoah, Fir'aun
fir-'awn

The title of the rulers of ancient Egypt. The ancient Egyptians used to worship many different deities, among which the greatest was the sun god, or "Ra'." Because their ruler was considered to be the incarnation of the deity, his title became "Fa-Ra'", or "Pha-ra-oh" in Hebrew and "Fir'-awn" in Arabic.
